This three-story, 83,900 SF humanities building provides space for the communications, journalism, foreign language, and English departments. The building, located at the main entrance to the campus, creates a new gateway into the campus from the community. Special features of the building include a cast concrete structure with infill walls to enable the expansion of classrooms in the future, translucent glass panels, suspended wood ceilings, and a faculty lounge deck. The “L” configuration of the building creates a courtyard that frames the campus entry and provides a gathering space for student activities. Sustainability measures include energy-efficient features, a construction recycling program and use of eco-friendly materials wherever possible. All classrooms have podiums and projectors and are designed to let in plenty of natural light. The energy-saving computerized heating system is controlled by the College’s Central Plant.
