Bloomingdale’s is an iconic American department store known for its high-end merchandise and excellent customer service. In March 2006, after a merger and major brand repositioning, an existing 290,000 SF Robinson’s-May department store, historically the first store at South Coast Plaza, was closed for a major renovation and upgrade. The building was seismically upgraded, moisture intrusion repaired below grade level, and the roof replaced. The south wall, which faces the 405 Freeway, was replaced with a new dramatic backlit structural glass wall. Sitework included re-paving sidewalks, upgrading the landscape, and enhancing the lighting, sealing and striping in the parking lot. The interior was completely demolished and renovated with high-end finishes throughout.
