With a design reminiscent of the traditional California Mission style with complimentary Spanish and European influences, this new 73,000 SF retail center creates a welcoming environment for local residents. The scope of construction included six single-story wood framed structures with high-end exterior finishes, core improvements and tenant improvements in some of the spaces. Mexican stone clad “barrels” anchor the corners of each building with decora stone and multi-colored plaster used to enhance the overall aesthetic. To create an inviting shopping and dining experience, an expansive public area was created featuring elegant landscape and hardscape, an outdoor fireplace, large stone turtles for children to play on, and an exterior music system. The “Art in Santee Tile Project” featured in the plaza is one of the first public art projects in the City, integrating ceramic tiles hand-painted by local students.
