County of San Diego – Ramona Branch Library

The new Ramona Branch Library is a single story, 21,000 SF building designed to provide the community with greater access to library resources. Very much a “Library of the Future”, the state-of-the-art building incorporates flexible space, photovoltaic solar panels, clock tower, and community meeting room. It was designed to appeal to patrons of all ages including a circular children’s area, quiet living room and study areas, dynamic teen space, staff offices and support areas, computer work stations and a 1,000 SF Friends of the Library bookstore. Because it is a community centerpiece and is funded by taxpayers and donors, the project adheres to low impact development and sustainable design principles meeting the criteria for a LEED gold designation; it showcases the benefits of a fully integrated architectural, engineering, construction and landscape design process using a Design-Build project delivery method and is an energy efficient building to reduce long-term operating costs.
