Having been completed in the mid-1950’s and not comprehensively renovated since, the CSULB Liberal Arts Buildings needed extensive upgrades and modernization. The focus of the upgrade was to improve accessibility, path of travel and the seismic strength of Buildings Two, Three and Four – classroom buildings totaling 36,324 SF. Aesthetic improvements included new finishes, exterior painting, new roofing and landscape. ADA upgrades included correcting sidewalks, handrails, uneven concrete surfaces, drinking fountains, doors and hardware to enhance accessibility. MEP and telecommunications system upgrades resulted in updated “smart” classrooms that provide a standard voice/data outlet at each instructor’s position, video connection and 2” conduit from the wall or floor box outlet to the ceiling mounted projector location.
