The Universal Boulevard Expansion Project consisted of an approximate 45,000 GSF mixed-use food, retail and attraction facility situated on the site of the old House of Horrors/Photoland facility. The building accommodates front-of-house (on stage) and back-of-house requirements. The project consisted of one building with varying roof heights, and a basement below. The construction for this project involved demolition, new building facilities, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, interior and exterior finishes and coordination/interface with specialty contractors who were responsible for retail and food beverage fit-out, as well as the Walking Dead attraction and show components. All work was performed within an operational theme park.
The walking dead attraction consisted of an interior, themed build out of AMC’s The Walking Dead walk through attraction. Including structural upgrades, MEP systems, low voltage interface, architectural and show lighting, infrastructure for show elements such as the burning cabin and crashed helicopter. Exterior improvements included a themed plaster façade, themed flatwork and the installation of a themed helicopter.
