This Design-Build project included installation of single drop gas package HVAC systems for approximately 181 classrooms and eight administration buildings as well as several cafeteria buildings on 17 campuses. The project goal was to provide fully functioning DSA approved HVAC systems, including, but not limited to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural requirements. Electrical upgrades to site distribution and main electrical services were required on some sites. The project was completed seven months ahead of schedule and over $2 million dollars under budget. Many strategies were put into place by the project team to achieve this goal. Prior to construction, the project team required an extensive review of field conditions, including concealed conditions, to discover and mitigate potential “unknowns” which would cause delays. The project team worked on multiple campuses concurrently, sometimes up to nine campuses at the same time. C.W. Driver also accelerated the construction schedule during the summer months and winter breaks, when school was out.
