Located prominently at the West Campus entrance of Azusa Pacific University, the Segerstrom Science Building has become a campus icon featuring a cement panel and channel glass curtainwall system. The building is a two and three-story, steel frame, 70,000 SF laboratory building designed to accommodate a variety of science disciplines including the biology, chemistry, math and physics departments as well as teaching facilities for the school of nursing. Elements of the program include 14 laboratories, seven research laboratories, animal research facility (vivarium), morgue, 16 classrooms, a 90-seat lecture hall, two student breakout rooms, 36 faculty/staff offices and a conference room. To identify deficiencies and conflicts with the extensive ductwork, piping and conduits required in a building of this complexity, 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) was used by the contractor and relevant sub-trades. LEED Gold certification was achieved.
