The updates to the 12.5-acre northern portion of the center involved tearing down the Sears building and redeveloping the surface lot facing El Camino Real, include 291,519 SF of retail, dining and entertainment space centered around an outdoor plaza. New entertainment features include an 870-seat Cinepolis luxury movie theater and a Pinstripes bowling alley and entertainment center. A new dining terrace was enhanced by a vibrant outdoor plaza, pedestrian walkways, lush greens and floral landscaping.
The mall remained open during construction and the project team remained highly vigilant of the high pedestrian activity and the adjacent mall structures. In addition, the tight site was located between busy thoroughfares and residential homes. As a result there was limited street access, making deliveries and navigation difficult. This project is applying to become LEED® Gold certified.
