In order to meet the City of Beverly Hill’s increased need for service, support, security and storage the new Public Works Warehouse and Shops building was constructed. Accommodating heavy loads on each floor is necessary; therefore, this two-story,21,000 SF essential facility is designed with a Type 2 structural steel space frame with CMU shear walls. Shops and staff offices are located on the first floor for easy access. The emergency control center and related functions are located on the second floor. Warehouse space is provided in the basement. Vertical circulation is provided with both freight and passenger elevators. Solar photovoltaic panels on the roof meet renewable energy goals and extensive exterior glazing allow daylight to penetrate the building. Connectivity between the new building and an existing City garage was accommodated by tunneling under the roadway. Sitework also included a contiguous outdoor 15,000 SF storage yard.
