The 58,000 SF District Administration Building is a concrete tilt-up and masonry structure made elegant through the use of an atrium/courtyard configuration. The board room includes high-tech audiovisual systems designed to be controlled from one desk. The building houses the server room that runs the computer systems for the entire district. Voice/data communications are integrated into the building as well as a security system with keycard access. LEED Silver Certification was achieved using a range of sustainable design features and systems. The building features an open-air clearstory, skylights and a triangular-shaped interior courtyard providing access to daylight and fresh air. Other sustainable features include use of recycled materials in flooring, stone and concrete; water efficiency with drought-tolerant landscaping as well as dual flush toilets and waterless urinals; and the conservation of electricity through the use of daylight dimming systems and photovoltaic carports, which provide about a quarter of the building’s electrical needs.
