CSMC – Steven Spielberg Building Wet Lab

This project required the conversion of 20,000 SF of office space on the third floor of an existing building into a new research laboratory suitable for one of the world’s pre-eminent medical treatment and research institutions. This effort required framing, new exterior windows, a new equipment platform on the roof, structural upgrades to the floors and columns, new electrical systems, air handlers, plumbing and compressed air and vacuum systems. To mitigate issues relating to unknown existing conditions, detailed 3-D MEP coordination and a seismic evaluation were conducted at the beginning of the project. In addition to upgrading the roof structure, upgrades to the ceilings and walls in the occupied second floor diagnostic center were required. All work within occupied areas of the building was done during off hours with minimal disturbance to the occupants.
