The Valley Performing Arts Center is a world class venue successfully weaving complex mechanical, electrical, theatrical, acoustical, audio visual and structural systems into a cost effective, energy efficient and sustainable LEED Gold building. The design process involved close collaboration between the client, architect and construction manager and included Building Information Modeling (BIM) for clash detection and to identify potential problems before construction began. Within the five-story, 166,000 SF complex there is a 1,700-seat concert hall, a 175-seat black box theater, backstage support, rehearsal and events space, classrooms, a 230-seat lecture room, and a new broadcast facility for KCSN public radio. The public face of this two building, U-shaped facility features a dramatic curved glass curtainwall. Inside, a grand staircase sweeps upward three levels to the upper balcony and rooftop terrace. Sinuous wood ribbons radiating from the stage are comprised of 34,000 SF of acoustic panels that enable exceptional sound delivery.
