The 58,625 SF Performing Arts Center at the Irvine Valley College provides space for the three performing arts departments; drama, dance and music. At the heart of the building is a 384-seat multi-purpose theater featuring a proscenium state, single level balcony, orchestra seating and an orchestra pit that can rise to stage level. The facility also includes a 50-seat music hall and a 100-seat black box experimental theater allowing for flexible staging and experimental productions. Support spaces include dressing rooms, instrument and property storage, general storage and faculty offices. The building’s bold architecture features an iconic glass entry that makes a strong statement while allowing light and views into the building. Issues addressed by C.W. Driver in the construction of this complex project included unforeseen site conditions, building on an occupied campus, issues with specified building materials, and exact specifications with regard to sound and vibration control.
