In order to satisfy UCSB’s acute need for affordable housing units and the University’s agreement with Santa Barbara County, City and local community and environmental groups to provide new housing, this project provides 22 faculty homes. 14 of the units are two-story attached homes and the remaining eight are single-story detached residences. All contain two to three bedrooms to accommodate young, growing families. Units feature decks, patios and enclosed garages. Site work and infrastructure is extensive with 3.06 acres of total development that incorporates 1.02 acres of habitat restoration. The project certified LEED Gold for Homes with two-story’s and LEED Silver for Homes with one-story. C.W. Driver’s project team has successfully incorporated proactive and innovative solutions in order to address a range of unforeseen field conditions. Because of the extensive scope of the project, involvement of the coastal commission and high level of community involvement, this project has requiring detailed scheduling and tracking of procurement and construction tasks.
