Untouched for more than 30 years, Torrey Pines Center North underwent a radical transformation. The four-story, 36,000 SF building houses six separate administrative departments for UCSD including their Foundation and Development groups. The fast-tracked project included the replacement and upgrade of the major infrastructure systems in the building, including HVAC, electrical, fire alarm, data/telephone and security systems. Also, the public restrooms and elevators were renovated to be ADA compliant. The building exterior was extensively replaced with new higher performing storefront and glazing, and new main entry stair was created with upgraded landscape, signage, and a new canopy. The project is pending LEED Silver Certification, and a unique sustainable feature included an IceBank thermal energy storage system to utilize ice created during off-peak hours for peak daytime cooling needs.
